"Diligence should be your watchword. Whatever you do, do well, and may success attend your efforts."

Rush

WHAT IS RUSH?

The term "RUSH" refers to a chapter's recruitment of new members. Rush is important to each fraternity at the University of South Florida because the new members joining each semester will be the leaders of the fraternity in the years to follow. It is important to get new members with a strong character and good leadership skills to keep the fraternity strong in future years. The University of South Florida has instituted a formal rush program to acquaint students with all fraternities on campus.

WHAT IS FORMAL RUSH?

"Formal Rush" refers to the primary membership recruitment drive that each fraternity participates in over the same week-long period. Students who participate in Formal Rush will spend this week visiting all the fraternities at the University of South Florida. Prospective membersMost Wanted Man have the chance to get to get a feel for what fraternity life has to offer during this week, as well as a chance to visit each fraternity on campus and meet their members to find a fraternity that 'fits' or 'feels right' with the rushee. At the end of the week, the rushee may get a bid from one or more.

WHAT IS A BID?

A "bid" is the general term to describe a formal invitation to pledge a fraternity. At the end of our Rush Week, for example, prospective members are given bids and, if they accept membership, they begin their pledgeship into the fraternity.

WHY GO GREEK?

Joining a Greek Society provides a young man with the opportunity to make strong friendships and large networks of acquaintances and contacts that can be helpful later in life with job opportunities. It is a well-known fact that alum of a fraternity is more likely to offer a position to alum from the same fraternity. With the huge number of Kappa Sigma and other fraternity alum, having these contacts can greatly increase the success in finding a job after graduation.
